Snetterton 300 Race Report 2013

Snetterton heats up the action!

IMG 9294 webNew for 2013 is the addition of the Snetterton 300 circuit. Just shy of three miles a lap of this F1 style circuit requires a mix of power and handling prowess. Two of the longest straights of the season provide the drivers and their machinery an opportunity to open the throttle right up and stir the gears all the way through the box. Even with all this high speed fun a lap is still well over two minutes making this probably the longest lap of anywhere on the calendar. For that reason alone qualifying is all the more important, small mistakes are costly and nothing less than a perfect lap would result in pole position.

In familiar fashion forty one cars took to the circuit for Qualifying at 09:05 and so began the quest for the ultimate lap time. Drivers familiar with the circuit immediately dug in and began finding spades of time while those less familiar were only just finding their way but soon representative times were set and the question of just who would come out on top of the obvious two front runners this year Stephen Roberts (56) and Stuart Voyce (21) would be answered.

Elise Trophy Race Report: Brands Hatch Indy 18-19/5/2013

Introduction

DTM BH 130518 PSP1372-300x200For the fourth year in succession the Elise Trophy supported the annual DTM race at Brands Hatch and as the crowd cheered on home heroes Gary Paffett, Jamie Green and Andy Priaulx, there was plenty of action to look forward to from the Lotus boys.

Adam Gore and Luigi Mazza were the obvious favourites, with Craig Denman likely to be their closest challenger, whilst Phil Stratton-Lake and Clive Willis, Martin Wills and Adam Knight looked set for strong results.

Qualifying

Mazza and Gore disputed pole position, with the latter looking to have the advantage until he was surpassed by Mazza. However the fastest man was disqualified after failing post session checks and Gore inherited the front of the field.

Knight would start alongside on the front row, with Denman and Willis on the second row. A strong sixth place for Neil Livsey would see him next to Wills, whilst Stratton-Lake, Jon LaMaster, Nigel Hannam and Graeme Foley completed the top ten, which would be reversed for race two.

Lotus Cup UK Race Report: Snetterton 300 7/4/2013

Introduction

The new Lotus Cup UK season kicked off at Snetterton, just a few miles down the road from the factory gates, as a bitterly cold April finally began to feel a little more spring-like. The new 300 circuit, with its combination of high speed straights and twisty infield, would stage the opening 90-minute encounter.

LCUK-start-300x200Both champions returned to the field but whilst Supersport’s Steve Train faced an increased field both in overall and the 2-Eleven class, Rob Boston was not expected to contest the full season, having graduated to the BTCC support package as part of the Jason Plato-headed KX Akademy. His Elise Trophy rival Andrew Bentley would be stepping up to V6 power alongside Adrian Lester in his Evora, whilst Lotus Cup Europe pacesetter Jon Walker entered the first Exige V6 to grace the championship. Both the Exige Cup and Open categories were also expanded, the latter with several Honda powered Exiges, whilst guest drivers included 6 Hour winner Michael Lyons teaming up with David Harvey in his 340R and GT racers Benji and Freddie Hetherington.

Elise Trophy Race Report: Snetterton 300 6/4/2013

Introduction

snappyracersG27P5448-300x200The Elise Trophy’s seventh season got underway at the Snetterton 300 circuit, and with last year’s star drivers Rob Boston and Andrew Bentley both moving on, the field was wide open. Returning to the fold, however, was Luigi Mazza, and ready to pick up from where he left off

Last season’s most consistent act, Craig Denman would also start as favourite, along with Ken Savage and several other familiar faces, including Phil Stratton-Lake, Martin Wills and John LaMaster. After a seemingly eternal winter, an unseasonably cold April began to warm up as the drivers headed to Norfolk
