David Moore dominates opening races of 2012 Smart Car 4two Cup Series

opening races 2012 seasonContinuing his multiple race-winning form from the Smart Cup Invitation race in Belgium 3 weeks ago, David Moore dominated the opening weekend of the 2012 Smart Car 4two Cup Series at Donnington Park, Leicestershire on Sunday 22nd April 2012 with a field consisting of 22 cars.

Run on the support programme of the Britcar championship and with the first two rounds of the series being held on the National circuit, the Tockwith Motorsports racer – driving a Smart451 (130bhp) category car, posted a pole position, fastest lap and the win in race one and 3rdplace on the grid, fastest lap and another victory in race two, with both races being run under a 20 minute format.

In wet conditions, race one saw the Yorkshireman pull out a comfortable gap to the opposition which also featured a field of invited 11 Belgian-based Smart Cup cars running eight 451-spec cars and three 450 (90bhp) machines, to win ahead of sister Sarah Moore (car No6) and the visiting Swedish female driver Maiken Rassmussen (car No456). Held in drier conditions, race 2 saw the Harrogate-born driver build a steady 0.5s per lap gap to eventually finish 6.2s clear of No9 driver Jake Jackson and sister Sarah in the No3 car.

David Moore: “This was a fantastic race weekend for me. The car handled brilliantly and gave me all I needed to really push it to the limit. The wet surface in race one was tricky to master but I managed to keep the car balanced throughout and concentrated on seeing that chequered flag. Race two was a comfortable win for me as again, the car did what I wanted it to do and was able to pull out a steady gap to the end.”

James Palmer, Series Organiser: “David is an exceptional talent and his performance today was from the top drawer. From the moment he first hit the track for free practise, he was among the fastest drivers and was certainly in buoyant mood on the back of his tremendous performance at Spa Francorchamps three weeks ago in the invitation race. Looking ahead, as a series, we are keen for other drivers either currently in karting or with previous karting experience to join our cost-effective series and give him a hard time as this is an ideal platform to help them get some way up the motorsport ladder.”
