The History of Gazzmatic and subcontract services
Quality backed by expertise... the history of Gazzmatic Int. Ltd.
Gazzard Engineering Company was formed in 1967 by Brian Gazzard and his brother Christopher, for the purposes of producing high quality machined components for the automotive industry.
The first site the company occupied was in North Ockendon and at that time the fledgling company boasted a workforce of just three, but always had an eye to future expansion.
In 1971 due to increased market demands for its products the company moved to a 2000 sq ft site in Rainham, Essex where it then employed 12 people. Continuing the Gazzard Engineering tradition as a family run firm, two of Brian’s sons, Mark and Warren, joined the company in 1985 bringing in, by then, urgently needed engineering design and youthful enthusiasm.
Much later in 1993 Gazzard Engineering was proud to attain ISO 9001 accreditation. This is eagerly sought by every major automotive manufacturer and ensures that every product produced by the company, then and now, meets the very highest standards of workmanship and materials available anywhere in the world. Furthermore, yearly inspections by an accredited body certify that the production process remains one of uncompromising quality.
Four years later, due to a period of sustained growth, the company moved to its present location in Basildon and is now housed in a modern 12,500 sq ft factory with a total workforce of 34.
Towards the end of 2000 Gazzard Engineering became Gazzmatic Int. Ltd. which identified a gap in the shock absorber market and launched its own product range - Gaz Shocks.
With over 20 years experience manufacturing components for a number of top names in the shock absorber industry this was a natural progression. The majority of components used for the production of Gaz shock absorbers were (and still are) manufactured in house, ensuring the company could guarantee both the quality of its product and its competitive pricing structure.
Gaz Shocks quickly established an enviable reputation in the kit car, stock car and classic car marketplace and this led to a deeper involvement in competitive motor sport.
Through sponsorship of the Mighty Mini Series the company made major inroads into the performance damper market for the ever-popular Mini. This resulted in an upsurge in sales worldwide including an increased market share in Japan.
By now, firmly established in the performance sector of the market, Gaz has continued to grow by investment in both technology and its workforce. To produce a fantastic product you need excellent manufacturing facilities. State of the art CNC turning centres, over 40 auto screw machines and a large number of high production rotary transfer second operation machines enable the company to produce not only its own products but also products manufactured for other companies. Increased efficiency has led to an increase in capacity, enabling Gazzmatic Int. Ltd to offer its excellent manufacturing services to produce parts of the quality and price that industrial customers need and demand!
Today, each member of staff is subject to ongoing training that enables them to perform any engineering task within the factory. This seamless approach to the manufacturing process ensures that a last minute rush to meet order deadlines is a thing of the past. Product flows freely from the factory, whilst special order items can be accommodated at any time.
Having been at the forefront of the fast road car suspension market for many years recent trends have seen the company focus even more on serious motor sport and its latest developments include monotube dampers for various applications and multiple adjustment dampers for out and out competition. The company has also supported the sport by sponsoring various race series including BMW, Porsche, Mazda and Lotus, and its products are now mandatory fitment in several classes of motor racing: testament in itself to the efficiency and reliability of the Gaz product.
Latest GAZ product introductions are promoted extensively in the motoring press, on websites and through social media to increase customer awareness of a truly superb, British made product.
Today, the company’s ISO 9001 accreditation has been joined by the prestigious German TUV certification to satisfy an expanding export market, however, with almost 50 years of high quality component manufacturing behind them the team at Gazzmatic Int. Ltd. are proud to still be a family business.
Industrial customers still deal directly with a director of the company who will personally follow the production of your product through every stage up to final quality control and delivery. Gazzmatic Int. Ltd. currently produces all manner of automotive components on a sub-contract basis and also offers its production services to other growth hobby markets such as angling and cycling.
